Congratulations! 48 Professors from HKUST(GZ) Selected in the World's Top 2% Scientists List
Recently, the 7th edition of the "World's Top 2% Scientists List 2024" was officially released. The data reveals that this year, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) has a total of 48 professors included in the list, marking a new high compared to last year's 34 professors.
In this year's ranking, the number of professors from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) included in the "Career-long Impact" (focused on the overall impact of their academic career to date) has increased from 24 last year to 32. Additionally, the number of professors included in the "Single Recent Year Impact" (highlighting achievements within a single year) has risen from 29 last year to 41. Among them, 25 professors are listed in both rankings. The achievement represents approximately 19.3% of our university's total academic faculty member.
The research areas of the selected professors span all 4 hubs and 16 thrusts currently offered by the university, further showcasing the cutting-edge interdisciplinary advantages and comprehensive academic backgrounds of HKUST(GZ).

Introduction to the List
The "World's Top 2% Scientists" is a joint initiative by Professor John P.A. Ioannidis's team at Stanford University and Elsevier, a globally respected academic publisher. The ranking is derived from an analysis of citation data from the Scopus database, and it employs key indicators for evaluation such as citations, Hirsch H-index, co-authorship-adjusted Schreiber Hm-index, and citations to papers in different authorship positions (sole author, first author, sole/first/last author). This process sifts out the top 2% from approximately 7 million scientists worldwide, categorizing them into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. This approach offers a reliable metric for gauging the long-term research performance of scientists, providing a more objective and authentic reflection of their impact. Inclusion in the world's top 2% scientists list implies that these scholars wield substantial global influence in their respective research fields and have made significant contributions to their advancement.
